At least six people were killed in an attack near the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Afghan capital Kabul on Monday. Several other people were injured, including three Taliban security forces, Kabul police spokesman Chalid Sadran said.
The attack took place shortly after noon (local time) during rush hour, when government employees ended their workday earlier due to the fasting month of Ramadan.
Also child among the injured
According to the Italian aid organization Emergency, which runs a hospital in the center of Kabul, 12 injured people, including a child, have been hospitalized after the incident. Two people had already been taken to hospital dead, Emergency said on Twitter.
So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack
Initially, no one claimed responsibility for the attack. At least five people were killed in an attack on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in mid-January. The local branch of the terrorist militia “Islamic State” (IS) subsequently claimed responsibility for the attack.
The Taliban, which rules Afghanistan, have been fighting the Sunni militia IS since they appeared in Afghanistan in early 2015, despite their ideological affinity. Even after seizing power in August 2021, IS has repeatedly carried out deadly attacks in the country, particularly against Sunni Taliban security forces and Shiite religious sites.
