Russian President Vladimir Putin has set up a relief fund for soldiers and their families fighting in Ukraine. It should enable soldiers and their loved ones to “lead a decent life”, as they say.
The decree on the “Defenders of the Fatherland” fund was signed by the Kremlin chief on Monday and published in the state gazette. The amount of money to go into the fund has not been disclosed.
Putin himself announced the measure in February, saying: “It is our duty to support families who have lost someone they love and help them raise their children, give them an education and a job.” Moscow rarely commented on the number of its soldiers killed in Ukraine.
