34-year-old behind the wheel – horror crash on the Rheintalautobahn


When the rescuers reached the scene of the accident on the Swiss Rheintalautobahn A13 near Montlingen on Thursday afternoon, the rescuers got a terrible picture. A van went off the road, hit several obstacles and finally came to a complete stop in the pasture.

A 34-year-old man drove his van on Thursday around 5:25 p.m. on the Swiss highway A13, which runs directly along the border river Rhine, from Buchs towards St. Margarethen. According to the police, he went off the road near Montlingen for unknown reasons.

Signal panel rammed
The vehicle drove over the rising edge of the barrier and then continued behind the barrier in the meadow. There, the van grazed around 50 meters of game fence, collided with several game fence posts and finally came to a stop after colliding with a signal sign.

Like a miracle
Miraculously, the 34-year-old was rescued alive from the completely destroyed wreckage and the rescue service took him to hospital with unknown injuries. The material damage to the car and the road network amounts to some 20,000 Swiss francs (20,600 euros). Prosecutors ordered a blood and urine test.
