According to Ukraine, three people were killed on Sunday in a Russian attack on a lifeboat in the flooded areas. Ten other people were injured, Kherson region governor Olexander Prokudin said.
The boat wanted to take people from flooded parts of the occupation zones to the Ukrainian-controlled city of Kherson.
74-year-old wanted to protect woman and was shot
Among the dead is a 74-year-old man who was protecting a woman and was hit in the back.
Russia denies allegations
Prokudin’s report did not reveal how Russian forces attacked the boat. The head of the Ukrainian presidential office, Andriy Yermak, had previously reported the incident. Russia denies allegations of attacks against civilians. Russia and Ukraine have accused each other of shelling evacuation areas.
Moscow and Kiev exchanged prisoners of war
Meanwhile, Ukraine and Russia each released more than 90 men in a prisoner swap. The head of the Ukrainian presidential office, Andriy Yermak, announced that 95 men captured by the Russians in fighting for the cities of Bakhmut and Mariupol, among others, have been returned to Kiev. The Russian Defense Ministry announced the release of 94 of its own fighters from Ukrainian captivity. Russia and Ukraine have already exchanged prisoners several times during the 15-month war.
