Life imprisonment – Handcuffed man shot dead by police in England

Date:

A man who was handcuffed shot and killed a police officer at a South London police station. The 25-year-old man was convicted of murder on Friday. In England, life imprisonment follows automatically, with the court setting a minimum sentence.

The convict had already been arrested in September 2020 when the police found ammunition and cannabis on him. However, the officers did not notice a loaded revolver, which he apparently had hidden under his left arm. On his way to a detention center, the 25-year-old finally managed to get to the gun and hide it in a slit in his jacket.

The suspect has permanent brain damage
When a 54-year-old police officer wanted to question him, he pulled out the antique gun and fired four shots. Two bullets struck the 54-year-old in the chest and hip before colleagues wrestled the gunman to the ground. Another shot severely wounded the perpetrator himself in the neck. He has permanent brain damage, is in a wheelchair and has difficulty communicating.

In court, he tried to argue for reduced criminal liability, but the jury concluded that he had acted intentionally. The exact amount of the penalty will not be announced until later. In England, a conviction for murder carries an automatic life sentence.
