A 34-year-old from Pörtschacher had tried to break open an ATM in his home with an ax on Saturday evening. Witnesses alerted the police. The initially unknown man fled, but was arrested shortly afterwards because of the description of the perpetrator.
Witnesses noticed the man around 10 p.m. due to the noise in the Pörtschach area and informed the police. The apparently drunk Pörtschacher fled before the police arrived. A short time later, however, he was apprehended and arrested near the crime scene, along with the tools used in the crime.
According to the police, the man immediately confessed and was taken to Klagenfurt prison after the investigation was completed. He is reported to the public prosecutor in Klagenfurt.
