Two leaders of the American far-right group Proud Boys were sentenced on Thursday 17 and 15 years in prison for his participation in the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
The leader of the far-right militia Joe Biggs He has been sentenced to 17 years in prison on seditious conspiracy charges, although prosecutors had originally sought a 33-year prison sentence against him. During the trial, which lasted nearly a month, the US Army veteran has come to ask for forgiveness, assuring that he is not a “terrorist”.
The judge also imposed a 15-year prison sentence Zachary Rehl. Prosecutors had sought against him up to 30 years in prison.
Zachary Rehl, Joe Biggs, Ethan Nordean and the leader of the Proud Boys, Enrique Tarrio, of Cuban descent, were found guilty of conspiracy to sedition in May. Nordean’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for this Friday and Tarrio’s is expected to be known on Tuesday.
