Day of Failure – Israel Announces Commission on Hamas Terror

Date:

An investigative committee should investigate Israel’s failure on the day of the Hamas terror. There is widespread criticism, especially of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. This emphasizes: war comes first.

An Israeli minister has announced the establishment of a state commission of inquiry into the unexpected major attack by Hamas on October 7.

After the war, this should “clarify the question of guilt on the Israeli side,” Culture Minister Miki Zohar said on the ynet website on Thursday. The committee will be “independent”. “The entire Israeli population will be able to rely on them.”

Huge criticism of Netanyahu
There is massive criticism in Israel of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has not yet taken direct responsibility for the political and military failure of October 7. On the other hand, leading representatives of the army and the secret service also acknowledged their responsibility. Zohar belongs to Netanyahu’s Likud party.

Nearly three weeks ago, terrorists on behalf of Hamas carried out a massacre of civilians in Israel. More than 1,400 people in Israel died during the attack and in the days that followed. Militants have kidnapped more than 200 people. Since then, the Israeli army has been attacking targets in the densely populated coastal strip.

First comes the war
In a video address on Wednesday, Netanyahu said simply: “This failure will be fully investigated, everyone will have to give answers – including me.” However, this will only happen after the war. His current task is to “lead Israel to a decisive victory.”

Similar investigative committees have been established several times in Israel, including after the Yom Kippur War in 1973.
