A total of 23 alcohol and drug drivers were arrested in two major police operations, one of whom had his family in the car.
A motorist from Vienna who was arrested in the Mattersburg district with his family was anything but a role model. During the check it turned out that the man was driving under the influence of alcohol while driving with three children in the car. His passenger had also been drinking. The police could no longer take away the man’s driver’s license, because it had already been confiscated from him in 2009 – for driving under the influence.
23 drunk drivers caught
However, he was not the only one who was arrested with a blood alcohol level during the two gravity checks behind the wheel. A total of 19 alcoholic drinks have been withdrawn from circulation, ten of which contain more than 0.8 per mille. A 41-year-old driver from the Mattersburg district had the highest value at 1.92 per mille. Four other drivers were under the influence of drugs. A total of approximately 1,930 vehicle drivers were checked and 1,265 breath tests or breath tests were carried out.
633 complaints against speeding offenders
But many motorists did not take the speed limit very seriously. During a radar measurement in Großpetersdorf, a motorist was caught thundering through the 30 zone at 78 kilometers per hour. A Porsche driver was in even more of a hurry when he drove through a 70 km/h limit at 136 km/h in the municipality of Oberwart. The speed cameras yielded a total of 633 reports of speeding.
Too loud, too broken
In Eisenstadt even the license plate had to be removed from a tuned car. The converted vehicle was 28.5 decibels too loud in the noise measurements. However, a small van that officials stopped in the Neusiedl am See district was too broken. The vehicle already had a crack in the frame. Further travel was prohibited and the license plates were removed.
