Accommodation evacuated – young person (14) set off fireworks in his room

Date:

The series of fireworks accidents in Vienna continues: after a fireworks explosion in the hand of an eleven-year-old boy on Wednesday, the police reported another accident involving fireworks on Friday. A teenager set off fireworks in his room.

Around 9 p.m., the police and fire brigade were informed of a fire alarm in a residential care center in Vienna’s 3rd district. However, no fire could be found on site.

Pyrotechnics ignited in the room
However, a resident of the property, a 14-year-old teenager, said he detonated a pyrotechnic device in his room. This would also have activated the alarm in the building.

The teenager suffered injuries
The boy suffered injuries to his hand and thigh in the incident and also complained of short-term hearing and visual disturbances. The 14-year-old received immediate medical attention, but was transferred to home care.

Accommodation evacuated due to grenade
Several fireworks were found in the boy’s room, which he said he had recently purchased abroad. An explosive grenade, probably from World War II, which the teenager is said to have found in Klosterneubug a few months ago, was also seized.

Due to the grenade, the accommodation was evacuated and the war materials and pyrotechnic objects were removed by an explosives expert (SKO).

The 14-year-old faces multiple charges.
