Last Sunday, the 55-year-old Belgian left Scharnitz (Innsbruck-Land district) to cross the Karwendel. Apparently it was planned to be a multi-day tour. But suddenly the man disappeared. Contact with his relatives was lost on Thursday. He was reported missing by his family on Saturday evening.
Successful search again on Sunday
There was to be fear of a tragic accident. Searches were initially unsuccessful. But on Sunday morning there was a big sigh of relief: the 55-year-old Belgian was found alive during a search flight with the police helicopter in the area of the “Vomperloch” between the Überschalljoch and the “In der Au” hunting lodge at approximately 1,100 meters altitude!
Body temperature only 32 degrees
The mountaineer was very exhausted and severely hypothermic. According to the emergency services, his body temperature was only 32 degrees. The man also suffered injuries to his foot. The injury may have prevented the mountaineer from continuing.
