The US Secretary of State assumes that to achieve “lasting” peace in the area “a transition period may be necessary”.
The US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinkendeclared this Wednesday that in order to achieve “lasting peace” in Gaza, Israel cannot “reoccupy the Gaza Strip,” expel its citizens or reduce its territory.
“The only way to achieve lasting peace is by not displacing Palestinians in Gaza, not reoccupying the Strip, blockading or reducing territory,” Blinken said at a news conference marking his visit to Tokyo to participate at a G7 meeting.
The head of North American diplomacy, who is confident that the conditions will be created to achieve a “lasting” peace in the area, has nevertheless assumed that “A transition period may be necessary”, in direct response to Netanyahu’s statements. And in recent hours, the Israeli Prime Minister has opened the door for Israel to control Gaza “indefinitely” after the war.
Blinken’s statements come after foreign ministers of the G7 did one today call for a humanitarian pause in Gaza to facilitate the creation of a secure corridor allowing the immediate access of aid and asked to do everything possible to prevent an escalation and expansion of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
