After a pause, the Russian army increases air strikes on Kiev

Date:

The Russian army has attacked Kiev with drones for the second night in a row. This meant that the shelling of the Ukrainian capital was intensified again after a pause of several weeks. Kiev is said to have been attacked in waves and from different directions. There were air raid sirens several times.

According to initial reports, there were no casualties or damage to critical infrastructure, the head of the military government in Kiev, Serhiy Popko, wrote in Telegram on Sunday. The Ukrainian Air Force said it destroyed 15 of 20 Iranian-made Shahed Kamikaze drones over the Kiev, Poltava and Cherkasy regions.

Power outages at more than 400 locations
The Ukrainian Ministry of Energy said on Saturday that there was recently a power outage in more than 400 places in the country due to a wave of Russian attacks. The south around the port city of Odessa and the southeast in the Zaporizhia region were particularly affected. According to the air force, the evening attacks lasted into the early morning hours. The Russian army fired 38 Shahed drones, of which 29 were shot down.

Last winter, the Russian military targeted Ukrainian infrastructure with hundreds of missiles and drones. As a result, millions of people had to survive in the cold without electricity, heating or water. This year autumn was also unusually mild in Ukraine. Temperatures are now falling and the authorities and President Volodymyr Zelensky have warned the population and companies about the consequences of new Russian attacks (see video above).

The Russians pushed back on the Dnipro
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian army has reported that it has pushed Russian forces back several kilometers on the eastern bank of the Dnipro River. Preliminary estimates would vary “between three and eight kilometers” depending on the nature and geography of the bank, army spokeswoman Natalia Gumenyuk said on Sunday. There are tens of thousands of Russian troops in the area. “There is still a lot of work to be done.”
