Especially in Paris, every effort is currently being made to reduce air pollution in the city. But this is apparently not enough: France has now been fined a million dollars because of the thick air in the big cities.
This is imposed by the country’s State Council as the highest administrative court. France is sentenced to no less than ten million euros.
Nitrogen dioxide limits are still being exceeded in both Paris and Lyon despite efforts to achieve cleaner air, the State Council announced in Paris on Friday. The measures taken so far have not been sufficient to comply with the limit values on time.
Ban on polluting cars postponed
The ban on car pollution in Paris has been postponed until 2025, even though nitrogen dioxide levels in the capital’s air have been too high for years. In the metropolitan areas of Toulouse and Marseille/Aix, the limit values are now being observed, unlike in the past, the State Council also announced.
Moreover, particulate matter limits would no longer be exceeded in any major French city. In France, the Council of State advises the government, but at the same time acts as the highest administrative court and can therefore also impose sanctions.
