Heavy storms raged in Italy last weekend. An 81-year-old woman has died after being hit by a tree in Rome. Her son, with whom she was traveling, was unharmed.
Another woman was injured by a tree that fell due to high winds in Rome.
Italy experienced the start of winter on Saturday. In the central and southern Apennines, snow fell up to an altitude of about 700 meters. In several regions there were temperature drops of ten to twelve degrees.
Firefighters also had to move to the historic center of the Tuscan city of Lucca to secure the wall of a building where much of the plaster had come loose and fallen onto the busy street. No one was injured.
The strong winds toppled several pine trees, including on a parked car and a house. This prompted the local government of the Tuscan spa town of Montecatini to order the closure of all schools.
