Another attack: woman (44) killed in shark attack on holiday in the Bahamas

Date:

An American woman from Boston, Massachusetts, was attacked and killed by a shark while on vacation in the Bahamas while doing stand-up paddling at Cable Beach in western New Providence Island.

A lifeguard pulled the woman and her companion, who was also paddling, and who was unharmed, out of the water in a speedboat.

Despite attempts at resuscitation, emergency services had to pronounce the woman, who suffered serious injuries to the right side of her body, dead. It is unclear which shark species attacked the 44-year-old woman.

The incident happened shortly after 11.15am on Monday.

Couple probably on honeymoon
A jet ski rental operator who witnessed the fatal incident from the beach told The Nassau Guardian newspaper that he saw the couple enter the water laughing and talking. He also said the couple were newlyweds and on their honeymoon. The police have not confirmed this.

The eyewitness was “surprised” because he suddenly only saw the man standing on the board. “I thought the woman had fallen into the water,” he said. “Then you heard the muffled screams of the man calling for help.”

Just two weeks ago there was an attack on Germans
In late November, a 47-year-old German woman was reported missing in a shark attack during a diving trip near Grand Bahama Island at Tiger Beach. The search for her has not stopped yet.
