The World Food Program (WFP) has warned of a civilian collapse in the Gaza Strip. “There is not enough food. People are starving,” wrote deputy director Carl Skau on X. In a cemetery he saw people cutting down trees to use them as firewood.
“The population is said to be living in unhealthy conditions in emergency shelters or even on the streets as winter approaches. “They are sick and don’t have enough to eat,” Skau said. “During a food distribution, a woman said that she lives in an apartment with nine other families. They take turns sleeping at night because not everyone can lie down at the same time,” he explained.
“Any meaningful humanitarian action impossible”
Public order has collapsed, making any meaningful humanitarian action impossible. There is chaos and despair (see video above). Skau got an idea of the situation in Gaza on Friday. He noted that only a fraction of the food needed reached the closed area, that there was a lack of fuel and that no one was safe. New attacks in the south
“The situation is untenable. We need our help and a humanitarian ceasefire.” Instead, the Israeli army continued its ground offensive in the south of the Gaza Strip on Saturday. Six people are said to have been killed in an Israeli airstrike on the town of Khan Younis and five people in another attack on Rafah. According to Palestinian sources, most attacks are currently being carried out in the central and southern part of the coastal strip. But ground troops would also be deployed in the north. The army spokesman on Saturday called on residents of northern communities in Arabic to flee the fighting to the western part. In addition, an evacuation of Khan Younis to the west should be made possible, he announced. In the city of Rafah, the delivery of humanitarian supplies would be allowed during a four-hour ceasefire in the morning.
