State Councilor for Finance Gaby Schaunig described the 2024 state budget as an ‘investment budget’. In which areas will investments be made? Or is this a phrase meant to distract from the impending debt peak?
There are arguments in politics, especially when it comes to money. Things are likely to get heated during the state parliament session on Thursday. The opposition – the FPÖ and the Carinthian team – criticized in their first reactions the high level of new debts in the presented budget. In summary, for the Blues, Governor Peter Kaiser failed in negotiating financial parity with the federal government, while the Yellows blamed the “consistent refusal to reform.”
Nevertheless, State Councilor Gaby Schaunig defended her work as an “investment budget.” Which version is correct now? The “Krone” has looked closely at the figures and also made comparisons with last year’s budget (see graph).
