“That too,” many thought when they heard of the monkeypox outbreak. Corona still has us under control, is there a risk of another pandemic? “It remains with selective spreads,” says environmental doctor Hans Peter Hutter of Med-Uni Vienna in this regard. “As it stands, infection occurs through very direct contact.”

Don’t panic, but be careful, is Hutter’s advice. “You have practically no control over the pandemic. There will be a colorful mix with Corona.” Until – as in the past with smallpox – as many as possible have been vaccinated against Covid-19.
The WHO also sees no reason for alarm
The World Health Organization is calling for various measures, but sees no cause for concern either. “This is not a disease that the public should be concerned about. It is not about Covid,” said WHO expert Sylvie Briand Friday in Geneva during a briefing for WHO member states. Monkeypox has now appeared in more than 20 countries.
Nevertheless, states must quickly identify the sick and isolate those affected. The WHO assumes that most cases are mild, but pregnant women, children and people with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of a severe course. It is unclear how large the stocks of vaccines against smallpox, which should also help against monkeypox, are.
