Memorabilia of British pop star Elton John (76) fetched almost eight million dollars (7.38 million euros) at an auction in New York. These include his grand piano and silver high platform boots that the musician wore during a concert.
They have the red letters “E” and “J” on the sides. The boots were estimated at $5,000 to $10,000, but reached a price of $94,500 (equivalent to 87,185.70 euros). A pair of sunglasses, trademarked by Elton John, sold for $22,680 (equivalent to 20,923.57 euros).
Here you can see a photo of the boots.
Several Versace T-shirts, decorative items and a portrait of John made by the painter Julian Schnabel also went under the hammer. The collection also includes an ivory and gold jumpsuit from the early 1970s, photographs by star photographer Helmut Newton and work by Andy Warhol and Keith Haring (see video above).
House sold
Most of the items came from the artist’s luxurious Atlanta residence, which was recently sold. Christie’s auction in New York on Wednesday was the first of eight planned dates. The musician, who became known for songs such as ‘I’m Still Standing’ and ‘Rocket Man’, played his last concert in 2023.
