The pregnant mare “Anna-Carina” almost ended up at the butcher. Now her foal was born in Gut Aiderbichl.
“That was very close. “The mare Anna-Carina was already on her way to the slaughterhouse when we rescued her,” says caregiver Lisa from Gut Aiderbichl in Henndorf near Salzburg. What no one expected at the time: Anna-Carina was pregnant! At the foreign slaughterhouse where the mare was taken, no one would probably have noticed. On the contrary: the more weight the animal to be slaughtered weighs, the more money is available for it. “We immediately noticed that Anna-Carina was noticeably fatter than the other six horses we also rescued.”
All the animals have now arrived safely in Gut Aiderbichl – and the little foal was born healthy and happy on Palm Sunday: “Shortly after four o’clock in the morning. “So it’s not a palm donkey,” nurse Lisa laughs. At Gut Aiderbichl the foal is a real Easter miracle. The first characteristics of the little mare can already be recognized. “The little mare inherited her dark mane from her mother, as well as her curiosity,” jokes the zookeeper.
So that has already been clarified. Now all that is missing is a name for the young animal! To achieve this, Gut Aiderbichl relies on the help of “Krone” readers. Name suggestions for the little mare can be sent by email from now until April 10 salzburg@kronenzeitung.at sent. A selection is made from this.
