Very dangerous criminals are behind bars in the Stein prison in Krems an der Donau. In addition to Josef Fritzl, Alfred U. is also among the prisoners – also known as the “Gulasch murderer”. Top lawyer Astrid Wagner reveals in an interview with the ‘Krone’ what the relationship between the two prisoners is and why Fritzl does not want to touch Alfred’s food.
“You have to imagine it as a shared apartment,” says Wagner, describing the life of the two serious criminals in Stein prison. Both men are represented by an attorney.
Life sentences for both men
Fritzl (88), who held his own daughter captive in the cellar in Amstetten for 24 years and fathered children from her. Alfred U. (69), who murdered a sex worker, chopped her body into pieces and then prepared goulash from part of the corpse. Both were sentenced to life imprisonment and, because they are dangerous, placed in a forensic therapeutic center. So they had many years to get to know each other and will probably continue to do so in the future. Just a few weeks ago, Josef Fritzl’s transfer to normal prison was rejected by the Supreme Court.
“Gulasch-Mörder” is a passionate chef
During his time behind bars, as Wagner reveals, Alfred U. in particular pursued his passion as an amateur chef, using the money he earned as an employee at the printing house to buy food and prepare a variety of dishes. The 69-year-old has also published cookbooks. “He is a gourmet and also cooks for his fellow prisoners,” the top lawyer told the “Krone”.
However, one of the prisoners does not want to taste any of the food: Josef Fritzl. “He knows exactly what he did. That is why he does not necessarily want to eat what he cooks,” the lawyer explains. These are usually cutlets or fish. The 88-year-old is also very body conscious. “It’s all just too unhealthy for him.”
But the two are not enemies. The 88-year-old is simply very skeptical of other men and does not really maintain friendships, as Wagner had already described in her book ‘The Abyss of Josef F.’
Goulash prepared from parts of the corpse
As a reminder: Alfred U. strangled and dismembered a secret prostitute (28) in Vienna in 2018 and dumped the body parts in Lake Neusiedler. The man, who had a serious criminal record, was sentenced to life imprisonment and committed to an institution for mentally deviant criminals for manslaughter, rape and sodomy. The suspect – he assumes that he will die in prison – described to the court how he had prepared a goulash from part of the corpse.
Top lawyer represents many serious criminals
Astrid Wagner, who represents both Fritzl and the ‘Gulasch murderer’, is also currently the lawyer for the mother who was suspected of seriously assaulting her son and locking her in a dog crate. Or the 35-year-old who allegedly murdered his ex-partner with a shot to the head in the presence of his nine-year-old daughter.
