A tourist is believed to have died after falling from a hotel balcony in Mallorca. The 21-year-old’s body was discovered by friends on Playa de Palma on Monday morning in a side street below the balcony, the “Diario de Mallorca” and other media on the Spanish Mediterranean island reported, citing authorities. Police confirmed this information upon request.
Authorities have launched an investigation. They assume it was an accident. The young man from Germany is believed to have fallen from the second-floor balcony on Monday evening after returning to the hotel with friends after a night of partying around 3am. The victim was not found missing until hours later by his companions. They discovered the lifeless body shortly after 8 a.m. and alerted police.
The newspaper ‘Última Hora’ writes, citing authorities, that the German was probably smoking on the balcony railing and lost his balance.
Recently “balcony climbers” fell to their deaths
This is the second accident in May in which a tourist from Germany died on the so-called Ballermann. Just two weeks ago, on May 7, a 23-year-old died in a fall. The exact circumstances are still being investigated by authorities. According to previous findings, the young man was attacked at night after a party and lost his hotel key. While drunk, he allegedly tried to climb over the facade to the balcony of his room.
In Mallorca there are always fatal falls of tourists from balconies. Most drunk holidaymakers have locked themselves out or want to jump into the pool from the balcony as a test of courage.
