The police and MA 46 made a gruesome discovery during a traffic stop in Vienna on Tuesday. A completely overloaded truck was loaded with 300 kilograms of food such as shrimp, spring rolls, duck and chicken, which were also not sufficiently cooled.
During the main campaign, the Vienna Market Office and the municipal department for traffic organization and technical traffic affairs (MA 46) determined that all frozen products were transported completely undercooled.
Chicken meat 13.3 degrees warm
For example, the frozen dumplings only had a temperature of minus 0.7 degrees. Surface measurements of chicken meat even showed temperatures of up to plus 13.3 degrees, well above the maximum permitted temperature for the transport of frozen products. All food was therefore thrown away and the driver was forbidden to drive any further.
Daily checks
“The market office is active 24 hours a day every day and its working area is wide: it ranges from the pub around the corner to the supermarket, the production companies, large kitchens, food delivery, the official consumer protection and the Viennese markets,” says Andreas Kutheil, director of the market office. “Our controls are your safety, because everyone needs to eat and drink – and we all want safe food.”
