Two adults and a child had a lot of bad luck on the reservoir bridge in Ottenstein (Lower Austria): for reasons that are still unclear, the car crashed into the guardrail, literally impaling the vehicle. You were about to fall tens of meters into the shallow water of the reservoir!
Directly on the Ottenstein reservoir bridge, highway 38, a serious accident occurred on Sunday afternoon. For reasons that are still unclear, a vehicle left the road and drove onto the crash barrier. It is possible that part of this crash barrier tore and pierced the car.
The leaky car protected against falling into the depths
The three occupants, one of whom was a child, were extremely lucky as the guardrail missed all three. Being impaled prevented the car from falling off the bridge into the Ottenstein reservoir, which starts about 20 meters below the bridge and is tens of meters deep around this spot.
Fire brigade on the way home
Two fire trucks on their way home from the state competitions in Leobersdorf passed by, secured the accident scene, treated the injured and started the rescue chain.
Emergency services were alerted and treated the injured and brought them to hospital with injuries of unknown nature. The responsible fire brigade recovered the vehicle and parked the car safely.
