They were announced and they came. On Thursday evening another storm front moved across Upper Austria. Shortly before 7 p.m. a hailstorm hit the Innviertel, fields were destroyed and houses damaged. Dozens of firefighters are present.
Dark clouds, lightning and thunder, huge amounts of rain and especially hailstones the size of two euro coins fell from around 18:00 in large parts of the Innviertel. The area around Feldkirchen near Mattighofen was particularly affected. The ground there was completely covered with hailstones and the fields of farmers in the area were affected.
Huge damage
The extent of the damage cannot yet be said. The storm continued in the evening towards the central area and the Mühlviertel. The emergency services were on high alert. The balance sheet of the state warning center: “A total of 220 fire brigades were deployed in 324 operations. The operations were carried out with 3,300 emergency services. The storm operations mainly took place in the districts of Braunau am Inn, Ried im Innkreis and Rohrbach. According to current information, no people were injured.”
The weather situation should calm down on Thursday night. But only for a short time, because the next thunderstorms are expected on Friday.
