Dramatic scenes unfolded at the excavation holes in Rankweil (Vorarlberg) on Tuesday evening. Despite all the efforts of swimmers and rescue workers, all help came too late for a 53-year-old German. He died on the spot.
Early Tuesday evening, several swimmers became aware of a man kneeling alone in the water. At first, they didn’t think much of it – it was only when the strange behavior continued and a health problem became more apparent that they rushed to his aid and pulled him to shore.
The emergency doctor started resuscitation
First responders on the scene immediately began resuscitation measures. These were then continued by the alerted emergency physician – but without success, the German died on the spot. The police ruled out foul play. Nevertheless, an autopsy was ordered.
