Two women from Slovenia were seriously injured in an accident in southeastern Styria on Wednesday morning. They swerved to avoid a deer in their car, only to have the car crash head-on into a tree.
The 45-year-old behind the wheel and her 36-year-old passenger were driving on the L204 from Goritz near Radkersburg towards Pölten. Because according to her information a deer was running across the road, the 45-year-old swerved, left the road to the right and crashed head-on into a tree.
Both women were injured and had their legs trapped. Another driver called the emergency services. Firefighters from Bad Radkersburg, Altneudörfl, Goritz and Mureck freed the injured and even the doors of the vehicle had to be removed for the passenger.
The 36-year-old was flown to the Graz accident hospital by C17 rescue helicopter, the 45-year-old was taken to Feldbach LKH. The highway was closed to traffic for two hours.
