A brown bear attacked a cyclist in Slovakia. The 34-year-old was walking on a forest path on Wednesday evening when the bear suddenly attacked the man.
A bear response team from the state wildlife agency was alerted and began searching for the predator, but its trail was lost.
The victim was taken to hospital with injuries to his upper and lower limbs. The incident occurred near the municipality of Sutovo, at the foot of the Lesser Fatra, a mountain range in the northwest of the country.
Bear is said to have protected cubs
According to the media, one of the man’s companions reported that it was a brown bear with her three cubs. Perhaps she just wanted to protect her offspring.
If you have an unwanted encounter with a brown bear, experts recommend standing still and backing away slowly. Under no circumstances should you wave your arms, throw rocks, shout loudly, or even take a selfie.
