He was a complete stranger to the victim who followed her home after work. He pushed her violently into the entrance of a garage in Vienna-Wieden and raped her. Although witness statements and DNA evidence put heavy burdens on the accused Hungarian, the search for a confession at the Vienna Regional Court is in vain.
Witness after witness recalls in the Vienna Regional Court: “I woke up to the loud screams of a woman.” It was 3 a.m. on March 15. Emergency responders found a crying and completely distraught woman in the entrance of a garage on Viktorgasse in the 4th district. “Her greatest fear was that he would come back. She kept saying she had been raped,” a resident said.
Ungar followed her on her way home
The 41-year-old was on her way home that night. She worked as a waitress and visited another restaurant after her shift. The same as her now accused rapist. She was pushing her bike home – down Viktorgasse. When the Hungarian suddenly pushed her from behind into the driveway and raped her.
This is confirmed by witness statements and a DNA report – traces of the suspect were found in the victim’s intimate surroundings. In court, the defendant now gives the fourth version of how they got there. Each of his descriptions is more alien to life than the previous one. “There is a lack of guilt. “He shows signs of a lack of sense of responsibility,” testifies forensic psychiatrist Sigrun Roßmanith.
“I am mentally ill”
The expert also discusses the illness of the Hungarian from the schizophrenic group. And he himself said in court: “I am mentally ill. I hear voices and I see UFOs.” But that has nothing to do with the terrible rape of the 41-year-old. He did not commit the assault in a schizophrenic episode; he should have been able to recognize the injustice of his act, says Roßmanith.
But that remains completely unheard of for the jury. He completely denies any sexual contact. He only helped the woman push her bike home. A verdict awaits.
