Ukraine’s invasion of Russia is gaining momentum as Russian army pushes into Ukrainian territory

Date:

Ukrainian forces have slowed their advance in recent days, although they have damaged infrastructure. The Ukrainian army has reported the destruction of two bridges in Russia’s Kursk region.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyhas assured that his army’s invasion of Kursk, in the south of the Russian Federation, is intensifying, while the Russian military offensive in eastern Ukraine continues.

“The bridgehead of our presence is getting stronger,” Zelensky said, just hours before the Ukrainian air force reported the destruction of a new bridge in the Russian region where the Ukrainian army is carrying out its successful raid.

Ukrainian troops have slowed their advance in recent days, although they have damaged infrastructure, including two bridges over the Seim River, which they attacked with the aim of “depriving the enemy of logistical capabilities, which significantly affects the course of hostilities,” according to Mikola Oleschukhead of the Ukrainian Air Force.

While they are gaining a foothold in Russia, Ukrainian authorities on the other side of the border, in the Sumi region, are taking measures to protect their own population. They have imposed 20-kilometer restrictions on movement, while evacuating populations located between 5 and 10 kilometers from the front line in Kursk.

According to the latest report of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the Ukrainian operation in Kursk “has already created operational and strategic pressure on the Russian theater, and the subsequent phases of the fighting are likely to generate even greater tensions inside Russia. The invasion has forced the Russian army to deploy a dozen battalions in Kursk.

He Russian Ministry of Defense explained that the units of the Sever (North) military group rely on aviation and artillery to detect and destroy enemy mobile groups in the wooded areas that try to enter their territory, and to repel “attacks of assault groups” in various places in the region.

While Russian forces have failed to stop the surprise Ukrainian incursion, which could continue over time, the Kremlin does not seem to be losing any sleep over it either.

Russia advances in Ukraine

On the various fronts in eastern Ukraine, Russian forces have captured a number of more cities, although the Ukrainian army claims it was able to successfully repel a “massive attack” in Donetsk, despite simultaneously ordering new evacuations, the latest in the city of Pokrovsk, faced with the Russian advance.

The attacks on the Donbas fronts are ongoing, while in Kharkov, according to Ukrainian spokesman Vitali Sarantsev, the Russian army appears to have reduced its activities despite describing the situation as “difficult”.
