Numerous Muslims gathered for a demonstration in Hamburg on Saturday evening – behind the action was ‘Muslim interactive’, which was reportedly close to a banned Islamic organization. 2000 participants were expected.
The location of the event is Hamburger Steindamm in the St. Georg district, near the main station. The motto of the event is: “Stop the genocide against our Uyghur brothers and sisters in East Turkistan.” The demonstration is expected to last three hours.
The organization shared a video of the demonstration on Twitter:
Connection with a banned organization
As “Bild” reports, the meeting was announced by Joe Adade Boateng. The student is Leader of the Islamic movement “Muslim Interactive”. This is closely linked to the banned organization “Hizb ut-Tahrir”, which is supervised by the German Office for the Protection of the Constitution.
Advertisement for Caliphate during demonstration in April
To increase the number of participants, the organizers intensively advertised the demonstration on the Internet. In April there was already a rally of “Muslim Interaktiv” that caused a lot of negative attention. One participant openly promoted: ‘Caliphate is the solution’ on a poster.
According to police, meeting authorities were checking whether the event could be banned. “As the right to freedom of assembly, enshrined in the Basic Law, is a cornerstone of our democracy, an assembly can only be prohibited under special circumstances, for example when life or limb is in danger. The investigation by the meeting authority has shown that a ban is not possible,” a spokesperson told “Bild”.
