On the national holiday, the ‘green and alternative students’, or GRAS for short, explain on social media why they – unlike many other Austrians – are not patriots.
“We are not proud of a country that has ignored the climate crisis for decades. We are not proud of a country where there is a right-wing extremist party in parliament, founded by the Nazis. We are not proud of a country that has already recorded 24 femicides this year. We are not proud of a country where Muslims feel more discriminated against than in most other EU states,” the GRAS stated on Facebook and shared the slogan “Cool kids have no homeland.”
It is doubtful whether the alternative post for the national holiday will be well received everywhere. The first two comments below the post are “Please leave the land” and “Compost it.”
