The young Viennese ‘devil murderer’ has now been declared insane. This means the 26-year-old will likely avoid a murder charge. In November he murdered his former roommate (70) in his apartment in the center of Vienna.
“He did not express a motive, but said that he had killed the man together with the devil,” a police spokeswoman said at the time. Lawyer Astrid Wagner has now announced that her client suffers from a severe form of paranoid schizophrenia. She therefore expects him to be placed in a forensic therapeutic center.
The 26-year-old Afghan had already given confusing information when questioned by police and is currently in custody. Due to his insanity, he will likely avoid a murder charge.
As reported, the victim was found dead in his apartment in central Vienna on November 7. The 70-year-old came from Switzerland and was a restaurateur. According to an autopsy, he died of multiple massive stab wounds inflicted with a sharp object.
While investigating the victim’s circle of friends, investigators eventually came across information about the Afghan, who legally resides in Austria. He was registered in the pensioner’s apartment until September. On November 8, the suspect was arrested on the street in Vienna-Simmering. He already confessed to the crime.
