The rescue of an injured ski tourer on December 25 became a race against time. The woman fell at the G Schütt Pass and injured her knee. Because it was getting darker, the rescue helicopter had to be called.
A group of three ski tourers between the ages of 25 and 30, all from the Gmunden district, went on a ski tour on Christmas Day from the G Schütt Pass in Gosau to the 1,666 meter high Rußberg. During the descent, a 25-year-old winter sports enthusiast from the group fell just below the summit and seriously injured her knee.
Helicopter alerted
Due to the injuries and the darkness, the Gosau mountain rescue service and the emergency medical helicopter “Christophorus 6” from Salzburg were alerted to rescue the fallen ski tourer. After a stop in the summit area, the helicopter crew was able to retrieve the woman from the accident site using the rope.
It was getting darker
As it became dark, the injured woman had to be flown on a rope for several minutes to the valley town of Gosau, where the Gosau mountain rescue service had prepared a suitable place with sufficient light for a helicopter landing. After initial treatment, the woman was flown to Bad Ischl hospital at 5 p.m. for further treatment.
