So many women have never been to the top of their communities in Austria. Although the share is highest in Lower Austria, Salzburg is in rural midfield. The last lights are Carinthia and Vorarlberg. By the way: the Austrian mayor meeting takes place this year in EIF.
There have never been so many mayors in Austria: 236 municipalities are currently led by women. In Salzburg there are at least 14 of the 119 municipalities that are female – that is twelve percent. Incidentally, the reduction of the Austria -wide eleven percent (236 locations from 2092 municipalities) is.
“Need much more devoted women”
President Johannes Presl of the Community Association confirms the question of more women in local politics: “Mayor and local councilors are not only role models for other women, but also actively form the immediate environment of people in the communities. Most mayors position LOWER Austria: 87 municipalities are led by women – this is the highest part of the federal states (15 percent). In Styria there is a mayor (10 percent) in 29 of the 285 municipalities, in Tyrol there are 21 out of 277 (almost 8 percent).
Burgenland represents 17 local heads in 171 municipalities (10 percent). In Salzburg, the share of mayors with 14 of the 119 municipalities is twelve percent and in Carinthia with ten mayors in 132 municipalities. A woman is at the top in eight of the 96 municipalities in Vorarlberg – a share of eight percent.
Large network meeting in Salzburg
Since Women’s Day in the previous year, 16 women have been at the top of the communities today. The Austrian Community Association has been dedicated to more women in local politics and especially in the mayor’s office. The annual mayor is an important part and mainly promotes networking and strengthening women. This year the meeting takes place in Annif, Salzburg.
