Russia has succeeded in a rise in the war with Ukraine: Moscow troops have recaptured the small town of Sudscha in the Kursk area. The Ministry of Defense in Moscow announced that Sudscha was “liberated”. In the summer, Ukraine had brought large parts of the area under control in western Russia.
For days, the Russian troops report progress in the restoration of the areas in the Kursk area, which have been besieged by Ukrainian forces since August 2024. Moreover, the places Melowoi and Podol were also recaptured.
The Ukrainian side initially did not confirm the loss. Sufscha was considered the most important conquest of Ukraine in Russia. In the report of the Ukrainian general staff of the previous evening there was defended attacks. The front part of Kursk was not mentioned in the morning report.
Heavy setback for Ukraine
Senskyj had repeatedly described the course offensive as a great success in the fight against the Russian attack war. A loss of the area is a serious setback because Ukraine wanted to use the areas that have been controlled as a deposit in possible negotiations with Russia.
Both commandants Olexander Syrskyj and President Wolodyymyr Senskyj had previously admitted that in case of doubt a withdrawal will take place to protect the lives of their own soldiers.
Russia wants to reclaim the area for months
Months – sometimes also supported by North Korean soldiers – leads Russia bitter battles to recapture the territory. The Ukrainians had recently been enormous and had to withdraw from different cities.
Russian flag in Sudscha.
The previous day Russian media and military bloggers had already reported that Sudscha was released. Moscow troops had raised the Russian flag above the building of the city council, said it, referring to a commander. Maps of Ukrainian military observers have already been controlled as Russian.
