The new construction of the University Hospital in Wiener Neustadt must be again approved by the State Parliament. Because the calculated costs have more than doubled – before the first excavators have emerged.
The new construction of the Vienna Neustädter Hospital was already decided in the State Parliament in 2019, but the project is again on the agenda of the state government on Tuesday after Easter. Since the first decision, no Schäuferl -earth has even been moved on the construction site of the planned Focus Hospital for the Industrial District. But the project again needs the blessing of politics – because the requirements and especially the costs have changed considerably.
Prices rose, extra tasks
If you take over the costs of 561.7 million euros six years ago, the current calculation will result in around 1.4 billion euros. There are various reasons for this: Firstly, the construction cost index has increased by almost 36 percent in recent years. On the other hand, the Ukrainian war has massive expensive raw materials and energy.
Moreover, an extensive environmental impact assessment for the new hospital building is now required by law, which can be expected by conditions. And in the new health plan of the country, a central function in St. Pölten will be attributed to the Future University Hospital in Vienna in Neustädter University Hospital. That is why institutions that were not yet intended as an oncology competence center, hybrid surgery with surgical robots and a trauma and emergency center in 2019.
Open seven years later
If the State Parliament is planned for the new plans and costs on April 30, a new completion date will also be stated. If the original decision for this was planned for this in 2028, it is now assumed that the new Viennese Neustädter Hospital can only come into effect in 2035.
