Two 15-year-olds launched a large-scale search on the Traunsee (Upper Austria) on Monday. The two started with a stand-up paddle from the Bräuwiese in Traunkirchen. Four hours later, when they still hadn’t returned, the concerned mother of one of the youths called the lifeguards.
A large number of emergency services were alerted to the search. In addition to the Traunsee’s three water rescue services, police and fire boats were also asked to provide support.
While ÖWR’s operational management was just setting up the infrastructure for a search, the two missing persons returned to the Bräuwiese, presumably having seen the emergency boats with blue lights, and the operation was fortunately cancelled.
Second use in two days
“It was already the second search in two days, which fortunately ended lightly!” says Simon Peer of the Ebensee water rescue service.
