Just a week after the devastating storms in Salzburg’s Oberpinzgau, the district’s fire brigades were again alerted to weather-related operations. There were several mudslides in the side valleys of the Oberpinzgau. According to estimates by the fire service, about 250 people are currently isolated from the outside world. The fire brigade also had to be deployed in the Pongauer Gasteinertal due to a mudslide.
The main areas of application are the municipalities of Wald, Neukirchen (Obersulzbach), Mittersill and Rauris. Houses were searched in Bramberg and elsewhere because people temporarily staying in huts were missing. “There are currently no injuries and no one is missing,” said district fire brigade commander Klaus Portenkirchner.
The task of the fire brigade is now to make the affected roads and paths passable again and to restore the infrastructure. Portenkirchner estimates that about 250 people are cut off from the outside world. “It’s high season, the cabins and businesses are of course fully booked,” says Portenkirchner. There would be about 130 people in the Kürsinger Hütte and 60 in the Bramberger Alpenrose – the rest will be divided among others. One is in contact with the trapped people and they are all doing well, the commander assures.
A mudflow has also occurred in the Gasteinertal in the area of the B167 in Dorfgastein. The railway was temporarily closed by the operations manager of ÖBB, the main road is now single lane again. In addition, the fire brigade had to take care of some flooded basements. According to initial information, there were no injuries.
