After the heavy storms in Oberpinzgau, the extent of the heavy rain became clear on Saturday. The emergency services have started investigations and initial clean-up work. Nine people had to be evacuated.
The emergency services started the first evacuations on Saturday morning. Nine of the 230 people cut off from the outside world were evacuated by helicopter on Saturday morning. “They were stuck at the Fürther Hütte,” said Stefan Lerch, the local fire chief in Hollersbach (Pinzgau).
There would have been no immediate problems for him and his guests due to the high location – the hut is located in the Hollersbachtal at an altitude of 2201 meters. “It was bad last summer, but no one had to be evacuated,” he says.
After Friday night’s devastating storms, Neukirchen, Bramberg, Mittersill, Hollersbach and Rauris in Pinzgau were particularly hard hit. 230 people were trapped in huts and inns.
During the course of Saturday, the blocked paths and roads were cleared of mud and debris. A total of 164 firefighters from seven communities were deployed. While vehicles will be able to move through the Ober, Sulzbach and Habach valleys again by the end of the week, the cleanup should take longer due to the severity of damage in the Hollersbach valley.
