The government gains the consensus to apply the standard that will pass today’s congressional examination where the group will contribute according to its real income
The return of the political course has not only led to measures related to the energy crisis. During Thursday’s plenary session of the Congress, the government, with the support of the PP, will also be able to implement the reform of the self-employed with which this group, which until now chose how much to pay to social security, will start from 2023 at Contribute gradually based on your actual income.
The Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, José Luis Escrivá, defended before Congress on Thursday that the reform of the Special Scheme for the Self-Employed (RETA) will introduce a “fairer, more flexible and equitable” premium system for self-employed workers, own. “It is a very complex and hard-working reform, which has been negotiated not only with the social partners, but also with the associations of the self-employed, representatives of a very heterogeneous group,” he said.
After many months of intensive negotiations, the government reached an agreement with the social agents on the new contribution tables in July. A pact negotiated outside the June 30 deadline was set as a target with Brussels, but will finally receive final approval in Congress this Thursday.
In concrete terms, the quota in the new contribution tables for the more than 3.3 million self-employed for the next three years in 2023 will be between 230 and 500 euros, compared to the maximum 1,125 euros raised at the start of the negotiations. Then the following exercises are adjusted.
There will be a total of 15 sections for each freelancer to choose according to their billing forecast, with a minimum rate of 230 euros in 2023, which will be reduced to 225 in 2024 and reaches 200 euros in 2025, 94 euros less than now, with where the annual savings for the more than 1.3 million self-employed with a net income of less than 670 euros, according to UPTA calculations, can amount to 1,127 euros.
The maximum quota will increase to 500 euros in January, to 530 in 2024 and stands at 590 euros in 2025 for the 250,000 entrepreneurs who invoice more than 6,000 euros per month.
It is estimated that with the new system half of the self-employed will pay less than now, a quarter will keep their contribution, while the other 25% will see their quota increase by almost 300 euros per month.
As Escrivá recalled, this RETA reform will mark a “turning point” and allow self-employed workers to contribute according to their real income. In addition, it will improve the social protection of this group and improve their pensions, as pointed out by the minister, who recalled that the pensions of the self-employed are 43% lower than those of contributors.
