ÖAAB boss August Wöginger wants to make overtime more attractive. His proposal: 20 overtime hours should be made tax-free.
In Austria, up to 300,000 jobs are currently vacant. According to Statistics Austria, 190.6 million overtime hours were worked in 2021 alone to fill this gap. But the overtime tax is high.
Expensive treat
ÖVP club chairman and head of the ÖAAB Wöginger would like to see relief: “The overtime tax should be reduced. More must come from the gross. With the shortage of work and the associated additional burden of overtime, which pushes many employees to their limits, it is fair that taxes do not affect performance.”
The first ten hours of overtime are currently tax-free up to a maximum of 86 euros. Wöginger wants the first 20 overtime hours for an amount of 200 euros to be made tax-free. This bonus will be expensive: the Treasury should unleash a double-digit amount in the millions. There are already talks with Minister of Economic Affairs Martin Kocher.
