The American chip manufacturer AMD says it can no longer sell its top artificial intelligence (AI) chip to China due to an order from the American authorities.
US authorities have asked AMD to stop exports to China, a company spokesperson said on Wednesday. The new requirements would prevent the MI250 data center chips from being shipped to China, but the MI100 chips would not be affected.
The company does not expect the new regulations to have a significant impact on its operations. Shares of the chipmaker fell 2 percent in after-hours trading after competitor Nvidia said the new regulations could lead to losses of up to $400 million in sales.
