The minimum vital income is going on tour in Spain

Date:

Escrivá launches a bus that will visit 40 cities over the next four months to inform about this aid and attract 140,000 potential beneficiaries

Next Tuesday, the bus touring Spain will be looking for possible recipients of Minimum Vital Income (IMV) with the aim of reaching those 140,000 potential beneficiaries who meet the conditions to apply for this assistance but who do not know yet. This is an initiative that is part of the information campaign ‘It is the least’ presented on Monday by the Minister of Social Security, José Luis Escrivá.

After two years of implementation, the minimum income is still a long way from Escrivá’s goal of protecting more than 850,000 homes, home to 2.3 million people. To date, 510,000 families, 1.4 million people, of which 600,000 are children, have benefited from this aid and although those 850,000 households are no longer expected to be reached, the minister considers it feasible to end the legislature with 650,000.

To publicize this vital service that is fundamental to poverty eradication, the bus will travel through 40 Spanish municipalities over the next four months informing interested citizens about the requirements to be met and how to apply for the IMV . It is planned that the bus will remain in each city for two days to inform, advise and, where necessary, collect applications. In addition, in the vehicle itself, in which a social security official will travel, the administrative procedures for submitting the application can be started and the citizen is given an appointment with an authority to provide the necessary documentation and complete the application.

Next Tuesday, October 18, it will be in its first location, Alcalá de Henares, and after that it will visit other cities in the Community of Madrid, such as Fuenlabrada and Parla. Later it continues its route through the rest of the country on a route that is announced weekly so that potential interested know where it is going and can approach it.

During the presentation, Escrivá emphasized that they are doing everything they can to disclose the minimum vital income, as one in four potential recipients is not even aware of its existence. For example, the ministry has already sent thousands of text messages to people who are potential candidates, although Escriva also acknowledged that there are those who, even knowing they can choose, reject it.
