Sharp inflation – wholesale prices: increase by more than a fifth

The sharp increase in wholesale prices is mainly due to technical chemicals, which have become 93.5 percent more expensive compared to October 2021, Statistics Austria announced on Monday. Prices of other petroleum products increased by 85.8 percent, solid fuels by 72.5 percent, motor gasoline including diesel by 48.4 percent, fertilizers and agrochemicals by 48.0 percent and grain, seeds and animal feed by 35 percent, 0.7 percent .

There were also remarkably high price increases for stationery and office supplies (+28.8 percent), paper and cardboard (+26.8 percent), live animals (+26.5 percent), milk, dairy products, eggs, cooking oil and dietary fats (+ 26.3 percent). percent), flat glass (+25.2 percent), other foodstuffs (+20.9 percent) and sugar, confectionery and pastries (+20.3 percent). Prices for coffee, tea, cocoa and spices, which rose by 19.8 percent, also rose, as did other building materials (+18.8 percent). But also the prices for office furniture (+18.2 percent), meat and meat products (+18.0 percent), furniture, carpets, lamps and lighting (+16.5 percent), vegetables, fruit and potatoes (+16.4 percent), flowers and plants (+15.3 percent) and non-ferrous metals (+14.5 percent) rose significantly.

There were also notable price increases for metal parts and installation requirements by 13.9 percent and for games and toys by 13.6 percent. But prices for auto parts and accessories also increased by 12.7 percent, for agricultural machinery, tools and accessories and machinery for mining, construction and building materials by 11.6 percent.

Iron and steel cost 11.5 percent more in October than in October of the previous year, perfumes and personal care products at 11.4 percent, cleaning products at 10.6 percent and paints at 10.1 percent.

However, some products also became cheaper: the prices of waste materials and residual materials fell by 25 percent in the same period, those of hides and leather by 6.1 percent.
