Double reason for joy in the Austrian team at the WorldSkills currently taking place, taking place this year for the first time in 15 countries: at the World Championships in Bozen, the Styrian painter Christoph Pessl and the Upper Austrian tiler Alexander Gfellner were crowned world champions in their respective professions.
Pessl, who traveled to Bozen as European champion for the World Cup: “I can’t believe that after last year’s European Championship I was able to win gold at the world championships! Unfortunately, I also made mistakes in between, but I was able to iron them out relatively quickly .”
Gold Medal for Styria
During the World Cup, Pessl had to deal with a wide range of tasks – such as devising and executing a special design at short notice, painting a tricolor door and special wallpaper work. The man from Anger, who works for the painting company Adolf Almer in Weiz, also had to prove his ability in the field of free technique and in the speed race. Within minutes he drew a motif that had just been announced. The second title for painters goes to France, while Taiwan takes the third place.
Styria in 3rd place
In the internal comparison with Austria, the Styria in third place: for Pessl’s home state, it is the 37th medal in WorldSkills (13 gold, 11 silver and 13 bronze medals). At the current professional world championship – after gold from florist Nicola Hochegger – it is world champion title number two.
