Job growth in this campaign will be the lowest in recent years, although 20% of positions will be permanent-discontinuous
At the start of the highest consumption season of the year, with Black Friday kicking off the Christmas campaign on Friday, November 25, Adecco expects 1.12 million contracts to be signed between November and November. January (both included).
In a report published Friday, the advisor reveals that this job growth will be 8% from 2021, yet the most moderate in recent years due to shortages of raw materials and rise in prices that could curb housing consumption.
Of course, due to the entry into force of the labor reform which has caused a change in the type of contracts, 20% of the total will be fixed-discontinuous, while the companies have not implemented anything of this type last year. The remaining 80% is due to production conditions. The main sector of the campaign will be services, with 47% of total jobs generated in these months. Industry follows with 33%, followed by agriculture (20%) and construction (0.3%).
According to Adecco, the most sought after profiles are warehouse waiters, forklift drivers, order preparers, drivers, distributors, packers, promoters, clerks, waiters, cooks, food industry operators and customer service personnel. The report also points out that e-commerce, distribution, retail, logistics and transportation – especially the so-called last mile, mass consumption, food, and hospitality and tourism – are the activities that will generate more employment in this data. .
The food sector deserves special mention. “Right now, the most important companies in the sector are starting to prepare the Christmas baskets as they prepare for the campaign. All this, together with consumer demand for typical Christmas products (nougat, marzipan, fish, shellfish, etc.), translates into an increase in recruitment,” they say from Adecco.
Although more concentrated in the central weeks of the Christmas campaign, the hotel and tourism industries will see their workforce grow. Family reunions, business lunches or dinners, or special evenings such as Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and Epiphany’s Night all see an increase in restaurant activity. Tourism will also increase during these festivities since last year when the pandemic restricted travel, as travel to other regions or countries has been reactivated.
The Valencian Community remains the leader in contracting on these dates, signing 177,220 contracts. It is followed by Catalonia (171,500 jobs), the Community of Madrid (158,000) and Murcia (143,000). Between these four communities, they bring together more than half of all the jobs that will be created in Spain between November and January.
