Retirees are counting down the days to receive the so-called Christmas bonus. Retirees receive two extraordinary benefits each year, the summer allowance and the Christmas allowance. As explained by the Social Security, 14 payments are made, one for each of the months of the year and two extraordinary payments paid in the months of June and November, together with the pension benefit corresponding to these months, as provided for in Article 46 of Royal Decree-Law 8/2015, which regulates the current general law on social security.
The so-called extra Christmas wage will be introduced in November 2022 and will be used to pay the two extra wages of the year. Although the Social Security has set this day, it should be taken into account that the exact date of the pension payment may vary depending on the bank where the pensioner has his pension domiciled, normally this happens in the last days of the accrual period.
The accrual periods are between December 1 and May 31 of the following year, both inclusive, in the June extraordinary pay. That is, this period runs between June 1 and November 30 for November wages. According to Social Security on its website, the amount of the additional payments is the same as the amount of a regular monthly payment, both in the payment corresponding to June and November.
There is a Social Security simulator that allows employees to calculate the money that applies to them based on the pension and the date they can retire. To access this service, it is necessary to go to the ¡Your Social Security’ portal, select the identification method, choose ‘Via SMS’ and fill in some details such as ID, date of birth and telephone number.

– Pension due to permanent disability (for non-work related reasons).
According to Social Security, there are some exceptions. In the case of pensions arising from an accident at work and occupational disease, 12 payments will be made, since the extraordinary payments are distributed pro rata in the ordinary monthly installments, i.e. they are not paid in additional payments, but the equivalent is calculated and paid little by little every month of the year.
