Twitter is adding gold verification for businesses, but with bugs in its implementation

Date:

The social network continues its subscription system with three types of “cheques” depending on whether the account is paid, corporate or government

Twitter has already launched its account verification service, which will be divided into three colors: blue, gold and gray. The blue one (“Twitter Blue”) is the option that until now verified the accounts of personalities or companies, but now those profiles that pay their subscription.

Second, the gold verification indicates it’s an official business account, a new Twitter service that Elon Musk, the new owner, is testing with corporate entities.

And finally, the gray verification indicates the official government accounts, although this option starts later. All with the aim, according to the company, of preventing identity theft. In fact, the launch of the new payment model was delayed because thousands of users obtained authentication to impersonate prestigious entities or public figures.

For this reason, the social network has made sure that the verifications are done one at a time, so if a subscriber decides to change his name or profile picture, he will temporarily lose the verification mark until the account is reviewed again.

The problem is that this service is still being tested and curious cases are emerging, with official records from different ministries in blue and others in gold, as well as media accounts. For example, the official account of the Ministry of Ecological Transition has a blue diamond, while the account of Justice has a gold diamond.

The same thing happens with other official accounts of some media. For example, ABC’s is shown with a gold mark, while El Correo’s has a blue ‘check mark’. Under Twitter’s new rules, all Ministry accounts must have the gray symbol, while media accounts have a gold verification, leaving the blue ones to profiles that have paid for the subscription and been verified by the platform after a full analysis.

This subscription costs $8 per month – $11 if it’s an Apple device – and gives access to exclusive features like editing tweets, posting higher quality videos, or name changes after viewing the social network.
